Dr. Bill,

I accidentally put on some sun screen today which had 77% denatured alcohol, I didn't have it on for more than 30 minutes before I realized what I had done and went to shower it off as fast I could. If I had a test tomorrow for etg/ets would I fail?

Also, could you please tell me all the different types of alcohol that I should watch out for on labels that can give false positives?

Thanks, I really appreciate it.

It would be unusual for EtG from the sunscreen to be present for 24 hours. Probably won't be detectable for more than 12-14 hours. If the cutoff for the test is 500 then it probably wouldn't be detectable even in short term.

The problem with sunscreen and any product that is used topically is that it can be absorbed through the skin and inhaled simultaneously. Skin cleansers, perfumes, hair care products almost all contain significant amounts of alcohol.

A list of products to avoid ranges into the thousands. About all you can do is check everything you use.
