My wife bought me a stadium light to place on my Fishing Pier. Unfortunately it was 480 volts and was setup for commercial 3 phase. Can I consider this an absolute bust or is their a way to convert or retrofit to 110 or 220?

There is no such thing as 3-phase lighting. Lighting is all single phase.

If you open up the fixture it may be a multi-tap. If so then you can wire it for 120 or 240v.
If not, and it's a straight 480v fixture, then IMO it's not worth using.

Lighing is one way, single phase. You may be able to just do a bulb replacement and use a 120 or 240V feed.

Just remember, an HID fixture has a ballast kit. It's not just the lamp and socket.

Unless the fixture you bought was a deal, you maybe better off just buying a new fixture complete with proper voltage ballast, lamp, etc.

I will need to work the numbers. Also, after a little more research, the best way to go for fishing pier lights are 1000 watt Par 64 Stage lights. The light projects a narrower more concentrated span and provide less skip/reflection across the water.

Maybe I can use the housing for something else later on.
