How did nj unemployment find out that I have a pa child support order? They are now garnishing my checks. I would send the payments in.

There may be several ways they found out. Were you making payments?

Many States share computer systems.

Why haven't you been paying willingly? If you can't afford the amount, file to have it lowered by the Court.

I don't understand why it's being garnished if you "would" send the payments in. Garnishment is the last step.

It was garnished in my paycheck. So whenever I got laid off I would send it in myself. Unemployment never had thin info.

If you were never late I'm amazed that it was garnished - I would ask.

But, again, if your income has dropped get an Order to drop the amount of the support.

I suspect you are frequently laid off ("So whenever i got laid off..."), because of the industry you work in. And that the support AGENCY is aware of it. So when they get notified the garnishment will cease because of a layoff they check unemployment.

So why does it matter, if you always paid it when you were laid off, it saves you the time and trouble of writing that check?

But to garnish your pay they would have gotten a copy of the garnishment. Most possible answer is either your last place of work, or most likely your EX while they knew you would pay, preferred it to be garnished.
