View Full Version : Menstrual bleeding restarted right after plan b two step normal?

My period was from April 2-6 and the condom broke on us the morning of April 7th. I bought the two step plan b and took the first pill on April 8th at 12:30am, and the second at 12:30pm the same day. I know the risk of pregnancy the day after your period is relatively low, but I'd rather be safe than sorry, particularly since I don't use birth control pills.

Anyway, I started some light spotting on Tuesday, and by Wednesday , its like I have a like a full blown period again. I know spotting/bleeding can occur with the one step, but I couldn't find any literature about this sort of occurrence with the two step version. I'm going through like 3-4 tampons a day (sorry if that's tmi but I wanted to provide a rough estimate of blood loss). It's now Friday, April 13th, and I am still "menstruating". By the way, no other major side effects beyond the usual (definitely feel a bit sleepy, slight cramping, but nothing that's prevented me from my daily routines).

So, specific questions:
-is this normal?
-how long should this last before I should call my obgyn?
-any advice to get through this?

And I'm emphasizing again, this is the two-step plan b, not the one step plan b.

Thank You.

Hi tigerib,

You might experience some bleeding for a few weeks. Most women will find that it ends sooner than that however.

If it becomes heavier, it would be wise to contact your doctor.
