I have an older half sister that was given up for adoption 4 years before I was born. We have the same mother and I have her birth certificate. How do I go about looking for her?

Your question is confusing. Are you looking to just contact her or are you wanting to adopt her?

Does she even know you? Maybe she does not want or need adopted.

As for contact, you should try googling her name... and check Facebook. Have you tried that?

Apologies if I was not clear!

My mother had a daughter in April 1958 who was given up for adoption. My mother then married my father in 1960 and I was born in 1962. I did not know of my half sister's existence until after my father's death 8 years ago.

Through genealogy sites I have managed to obtain a copy of her birth certificate, therefore have her birth name and date of birth.

I would like to find her but have no idea where to start. I have tried googling birth name and Facebook but obviously her surname would not be the same.

Ok... so now I understand that you are not talking about adoption, but in just trying to find and contact your half sister.

This is an oft asked question and the answers are not simple. There is no easy way to find her with only the information that you have, and there have been many books written on the subject. If money is not an issue, you can hire someone to track here down, or if you have plenty of time then you can dig, dig and dig into any and all records that are available...

... but remember: she may or may not know that she is adopted, and she may or may not have an interest in hearing from you. I know that YOU would like to know more, but you also have to keep her feelings in mind.
