 I would like to know if it is necessary to have the optic pressure test when having a vision exam. My daughter is near sighted and needs glasses but refuses to have this test where they puff air into her eyes. Is it really necessary to get new glasses?

It is not absolutely necessary, but recommended. This is one way to determine interocular pressure, it helps to determine if there is intracranial pressure as in a tumor, or to help in determine pre-diabetic condition, just to name a few.

You can say that you do not want this test. However, by not having this test done, any underlying conditions will not be detected. Just like J_9 said. So ask your daughter is that little puff of air really of such great significance to her, versus not knowing if there are any developing conditions? What would she say if later something was found out? Early detection is a vital link in treatment.

So you tell your daughter she has to anyway, who is the parent, * give me a break.
There is a lot of medical tests that are needed we don't like.
This is not "needed" in the since that they can fit her for glasses without it, but it also means that if there is something wrong, they will not catch it early and it can lead too much more serious eye troubles.
