Hi,

I was F-1 and my wife was F-2 from 08/2007 to 04/2011, in which I was on OPT from 08/2010 to 04/2011. I am H-1B and my wife is H-4 from 05/2011 to current. This year, we chose dual-status (as stated on Pub. 519 page 34) to file tax return. I am asking:

If I buy a house now, can I get First House Buyer Tax Credit (how much?) when I file tax return for 2012?

If I put only my name on the title of the house, will my wife still be considered as a first house buyer if we buy a second house (on her title) in three years?

Thanks

The First-Time Home Buyer's Credit expired in 2009; sorry!

Also, you SHOULD have filed a joint return, with y9ou both CHOOSING to be treated as resident aliens for all of 2011. That option gives you a JOINT standard deduction of $11,600.
