When I was young I watched a movie on TV and it was animated as far as I can remember

I am 43 now and saw it in the 1970's or 1980's

I saw it on TV and it was animated and was about a seal woman (selkie) who was sunbathing and something happens and she ends up married to a man and she finds her seal skin (I think in the house of her husband) and she puts it on and leaves

I may have this mixed up but I do believe when she leaves she goes to a place with many seals (maybe inside a mountain)

It may have been a foreign movie

This part sounds like the conclusion of
The White Seal

Well it definitely is not white seal. Since that is about a seal pup and has nothing to do with selkies just about a seal pup.

Not sure if it is from Manga Fairy Tales of the World
Because it doesn't have much info but thanks anyway

@ Straydog - jujubees asked this same question a while back... I answered the same thing as you about the White Seal... and good job on that Japanese cartoon! I searched for 'animated Selkie' for like days... and found nothing that matched jujubees description. Well Done!

@ jujubees - The White Seal came out to TV in 1975, that would make you like 7 yrs old? Maybe it is a possibility that two movies have merged in your memory? If you go to 'view' on Straydogs post under the Manga info, you can watch the film...

@ aliseodo The show I saw was not white seal. White seal is about a seal. The movie I saw was about a selkie. The seal part of the movie was short since it was mostly about the woman living with her husband. It was oddly animated too not like white seal.
I saw the white seal back in 1975 and not the movie I am thinking of.

This movie I saw the woman went into a hidden area where the selkie's were sunbathing.
It was almost a penciled animated film

Also some of the selkies were women sunbathing too after taking off their seal skins

Oh just to note also - there was a video sponsored by Kellogg's which was back to back the whole collection. This might bring the "movie" memory?

This is an old thread but I'm pretty sure I found the movie you're talking about. I remembered it being a part of a DVD collection of mythical stories in Spanish (I'm Puerto Rican) and since there's no word for selkie in Spanish that I know of, I searched something along the lines of "mujer foca" (seal woman) and it popped up. The English title is The Sealskin. Here's a link, it's in Spanish but watch it just to be sure that it's this one.

Oh and if that link doesn't work, try this one
