I have a MTD model 760-779 transmatic lawn tractor. Last year the ignition switch stopped working or rather when you turned it to start it wouldn't do anything. I was able to bypass it and jump the starter directly and get it to start but this year it just turns over when I jump the starter and will not fire. I am a good mechanic (cars,boats) but my electrical skills are not that good. Any suggestions on what the problem might be? Thank in advance

Why did you not replace the switch? It has the Start circuit, the Light circuit and the Ignition ground circuit in it. If on goes bad, can the others be that far behind?

PS 760-779 refers to a whole family of machines with 700 series frames and various sheet metal - 760, 7xx, etc.
