I am 52. I felt like I had to have a bowel movement, sat down and had nothing but blood come out-a lot-like diarrhea but all blood. What might this be? No pain-just an explosive diarrhea all blood.

So when you got back from the ER or your doctor what did they say? Going to the doctor after this should not even be a question.

Anything - bleeding polyps, diverticulitis, stomach ulcer, ulcerative colitis, I suppose even watery diarrhea with some blood from hemorrhoids. So it could be serious or not. It's not uncommon to have a very occasional amount of blood come out of the bowel, but you are going to have to go to a doctor.

I feel fine. Just got back from the movies-and thought I had to go to the bathroom and it was just a massive gush of blood. No cramps, etc. I'm a pastor and don't have insurance so I am slow to go to the e.r. The only thing I did was eat a lot of popcorn-I feel fine otherwise. It just scared me a bit because there was no other discharge but blood.

If you go to the ER, you don't need insurance. Medicaid will cover you. I can't tell you how important it is to get this problem checked out.

I left my newspaper career to follow Christ and I have 6 months to go until I graduate-in the meantime-I'm an intern pastor... no insurance... I've had 3 sick days in 30 years so I've rarely been to the doctor.

The time has come. Gushing blood is not at all normal. If you ignore this, it could very well escalate into something that will put you in the hospital and cause associated and additional problems.

How old are you, what about family history of polyps or diverticulitis, ulcers or colon cancer?

Popcorn will scour your insides and is good for a healthy colon. But polyps can bleed as can the pouches that get infected when full of stagnant material (diverticulitis). Polyps can be benign or cancerous.
We certainly can't diagnose here, but we can suggest conditions that MIGHT be considered, but it doesn't take the place of going to get examined. Diverticulitis can progress to diverticulosis, and ulcerative colitis can get worse too.
If you insist on waiting, keep your diet bland but with roughage that doesn't have large undigestable parts such as corn and popcorn and foods with seeds. Brown rice, oatmeal, fresh broccoli instead. Avoid red meats and white flour products and cheese. Drink plenty of healthy fluids.
And if it does happen again - GO!

This could be a sign of many things, as you have found here. Please seek medical attention. If you cannot afford the ER, most public (not private) hospitals have assistance with paying part or all of your bill.
