I have an old bathtub snout (1952, metal hexagon shape) that will not come out or move at all as I try to unscrew it. I am afraid I will break the piping and end up with a bigger problem. Any ideas? Can you help us?

Look under the spout next to the wall and tell me if there's a square opening. Let me know, Tom

Does your spout look like the one in my picture below? If so, this spout is attached to a brass nipple and spins off counterclockwise. Here, you have no choice really but to put a large wrench on the spout and torque the wrench hard to loosen the spout. In most cases, these spouts come loose without damaging anything else so you should be OK here.
Installing the new spout will be a little trickier... will need a brass coupling and a brass nipple of appropriate size to go to the old brass nipple and the new threaded spout!
Good luck!
