Flipping a house built in 1971. Took down ceiling fan and wanted to replace with flush mount light. New light has black, white, and ground wires. BUT... The wiring box in the celing has 3 black wires that are available to wire. There are about 4-5 white wires coming into this box and they are capped off together, the same goes for a set of black wires. Then you have the 3 available wires that were somehow hooked to the old fan! There is also a switch on both walls that work this box and I think that there used to be a dimmer switch or fan switch as well. I have wired it several different ways and with little success. At one point I did have power to the light but the switches wouldn't turn it off and then there was the one time there was light but when I turned the dimmer switch it threw the breaker! Help!

With all black wires, there is no way for anyone here to know which wire is which.

Some are wires live 24/7, some from the switch(es), that are only live when switches are on.

These all need to be tested with a voltage tester to confirm what is what.

If you cannot do this, then an electrician needs to be called in.
