I have two switches on the wall.. one for the light and one for the fan. At the ceiling there is a white, black, and a red... we pick a fan with a remote so there is no wire for the red.just a white and black. How can I bypass the remote and just use the switches on the wall? Thanks

You don't have the right picture in your mind yet. The only way for a remote to operate when switches are present is for the switches to remain ON all the time. If a switch is ever shut off the remote doesn't get power so nothing works. If you want to "bypass the remote and use the two wall switches, one for fan and one for light, then you must start with the wall switches ON, then turn on the fan and the light with the remote, put the remote away somewher and now you have your bypass, quit using the remote. Now to truly accomplish what you want, and it will be long term and not easily undone, you start by removing the remote receiver, never put it in the canopy. You take your black and white and connect to the fans black and white. Connect your red and a pigtail of the white to the fans blue and white. Blue is the most frequent color for a light kit hot wire. Let me know if you need to know more.
