Hi I was given a drop dead great looking Hampton Bay ceiling fan with a light as well as a remote. Upon hanging it correctly as I matched and connected the wires from my ceiling pancake, I found that I had an additional "Red" wire with out a "Blue" or what ever colored wire would allow the light to work. I hooked the red with the 2 black wires and the fan runs as it did prior to doing this. I'm told that I should have a Blue wire, as I can not locate it. This fan/light has a remote and once I depress each button I do get a red light, as I think it working, but no noted actions to control fan on, of or lowering or reverse speed as well as a non operative light button. I was not given any extrior remote contol mod which is sometimes put up under the canope, as I was told it might be factory installed with in the fan body. Please advise. Thanks, Jerry Horn

Do you know which model you have? Was/is the ceiling pancake controlled by one or two switches?

With a remote control fan, you only need 1 power source,a blue wire is not needed as the remote controls it. If you don't have a transmitter go get a treplacement at Home Depot since Hampton Bay is their brand.
