I am an international student on OPT and I have a form 1099 Misc and a W2. I have filled my schedule C. I was filling 1040NR. I need to know if I need to fill schedule A. Can't I opt for standard deductions?
If yes, Can I enter $5,800 on line 22 of 1040NR ? Also what do I enter on line 38 of 1040 [38 Itemized deductions from page 3, Schedule A, line 15]?

I also wanted to know which CA state tax form should I fill in this case? Does form 1099 Misc have to do anything with CA state Tax form? I forgot to mention , I am an international student from India.

You are from India so you can claim standard deduction as itemized deduction. Complete schedule A and claim standard deduction on schedule A.
Even for CA you must report 1099-misc income.

Thank you for the reply. I had another query. Where do I report 1099-Misc income in CA tax forms? I tried to fill the 540 NR short. Do I need to fill some other form instead?
