Hello,
My wife and I got our green cards last year (2011) and we moved to the United States (California) from Canada on July 22, 2011.
All of our employment income for 2011 was from Canadian sources. We had no US sourced income for 2011... But parts of the Canadian sourced income was earned after we moved to the United States as I continued to work remotely for a Canadian Company. All our income taxes were paid to the Canadian government in 2011
It is my understanding that for 2011 we are Dual Status Aliens in the US.
Do we need to file our US returns separately as we are Dual Status Aliens for 2011?
Would we potentially owe US income taxes even though we already paid Canadian sourced income taxes to Canada?
We will be seeing a tax professional... I'm just asking in order to get a better understanding before we see one.
Thx
