Hi everyone, we just had a house built. And in the basement they roughed in a 3 piece bathroom. I was originally told by the builder that there would be a wooden box, with a thin layer of concrete over it for the tub drain (see picture, part I circled) and that I would break that out and away I go. I've hit that part as hard as heck and nothing, it doesn't even sound hollow (I was told it would). So my builder was out today, and also thinks that the plumber didn't install that box. The plumber no longer works for the company, so no one knows for sure, what he did. I'm building a subfloor and the tub can drain to the part sticking out behind the circle above the concrete. And the tub overflow can go there as well. Would it be "safe" to assume that the P-trap is on that part sticking out of the concrete? And would it also be "safe" to assume, there is in fact no drain under the part that is circled? My fears are thus: there's no p-trap and therefore I get sewer gas venting out the drain and overflow. And worse still, there IS a drain under the slab (under the circled part) and I would be spilling sewage, either grey water from tub, or back flow from toilet, out that drain and under the slab. The other ABS in the picture are the toilet, which is obvious and the stack with a right angle horizontal pipe for the sink.

Would it be "safe" to assume that the P-trap is on that part sticking out of the concrete? No it's not! This pipe's inside the wall. Looks more like a vent to me. The "P" trap raiser should be located aprox. 11/2" in FRONT of the front wall plate and 15 1/2" off the side wall. I'll bet if you take out a square foot of concrete you'll find your "P" trap down there. Good luck, Tom

Sorry, I'm not sure I follow. The pipe (which pipe?) is in the wall? Which wall? The picture shows the floor - the plastic is there as I'm building a sub floor. You say the p trap should be 1 1/2" in front of the wall plate, I'm not sure what the wall plate is? There's no wall there, except the concrete wall (has drywall on it), which is the foundation wall. That's at the left of the picture, you can see an electrical outlet on it.

I think the box is there... Just hit it harder... You may have 2-3 inches of concrete over it... try again... Also, I would cut that tub vent all the way down, take flashlight and look inside. You should be able to see inlet from San T... Try again... Let me know what you have found out... Back to you... Milo

I'm not sure what the wall plate is? A wall plate is the 2X4 nailed to the slab that the studs are secured to. In this case the red line.
I'm with Milo, like I said, " I'll bet if you take out a square foot of concrete you'll find your "P" trap down there." Good luck, Tom
