A couple of weeks ago I noticed the light fixture globe in our kitchen was 1/3 filled with water. At the time - someone was showering.

I removed the globe, emptied it and have not used the shower or light switch since.

The home is only 7 years old - original bathroom, shower.

Question: What might the probable cause be? Is it possible the leak could be fixed without cutting a hole in the kitchen ceiling?

I have a plumber friend - though he didn't seemed too enthused when I told him about the leak - perhaps because he has limited or no drywall experience.

Thoughts?

You first must determine the source of the leak. Is it a custom tile shower or a manufactured base and enclosure? Let's check the drain first. Tonight before you go to bed, remove the strainer from the shower drain and jam some wet rags down there to seal off the drain. Or you could blow up a balloon in there and tie it off. Fill the base with a inch or so of water and mark the level. Next morning check the ceiling for moisture and see if the levels the same or has dropped. Let me know what you find. Goodl uck, Tom
