I have a few questions about judgments in GA. My mother was served that she was to appear in court due to inability to pay her rent anymore and she had went to the landlord asking to get out of her lease because she lost her job and could no longer afford her rent. This was back in 2008. After all of the harassing emails and constant voicemails he has sold the judgment to a garnishment place. She only had $600 in her bank account and they took $4300 from her and it has seized her account and has no way of income right now other than the little money she makes and it gets deposited directly.

Now she has stacking bills and can't afford to get back to square one and the garnishment place is looking for her to pay $1200 to lift the garnishment. She can't pay it because her bank account is seized. I think that she has been done wrong. What are my options.

No, why do you feel she was done wrong?

Landlord is under no obligation to let her out of the lease, He had a right to sue for the amount due from the lease, she I would assume had plenty of chances to pay this.
Next they would have sued to get a judgement. No further count action is needed for a judgement. They may have sold this to a collection agency or may just be having someone collect this for them.

She had a chance to appear in court and show why she would not owe this. Or even to ask the court to approve a payment plan. ( showing she has tried to make payments)

Once they have a judgement they can take all the money out of her bank account.
If she has a direct deposit she needs to stop it.

It alll appears very legal and correct.

Why do you think it is wrong legally. ( even morally, if she owes the debt)
