I'm getting a police information screening for my clinical placement this summer, and it says that charges that were dealth with through diversion will be written as "police contact".

What effect do police contacts have on these background checks? Does that mean your screening came back positive, or can you still be clear for this screening? I'm just not sure how workplaces will deal with a police contact on your police check.

Thanks !

Diversion programs are of course where you plead guility of the crime but was given a program where it will not be on your record. Of course for police, most government and national security background searches these show up.

How it effects things will depend on the agency you are going to work for and their specific rules. Also it may be looked at with your over all other qualifications.

Hi FR_Chuck

I understand that the place I am going to do my clinical placement at will have to consider my application, since it's at a healthcare location. However, for the police department, will they for sure show my police check as positive? I was told that a police contact may not equal a criminal record, so I was confused as to how the charges that were dealt with through diversion would be part of a "police contact" (since things like police contacts for disturbing house parties, etc could also be found on this police check).
