I have a rototiller with a Briggs & Stratton 5 HP motor, model 130292. The motor makes a high pitch squeal while running and the starter rope comes out a few inches. I see by a previous post that it might be the clutch assembly. How can I verify before I order the part?
Need to take the drive apart , and clean or replace.
The balls inside are sticking.

Do I lube it? I took it apart and the balls and sprocket look clean.
Thanks for your help,
Richard
No ,do not lube ,this will cause them to stick even more.make sure its really dry and clean.

Could the ratchet be bad and hanging up on the crank shaft? If so, can I replace that part or do I have to replace the whole assembly? How would I know?
Richard
I would replace it , That's what I do in my shop.
No need to take any chances .

I tore it apart and cleaned the assembly and inside the ratchet sleave. I also tightened the pull rope. Works good for now. I'll let you now how it runs tonight when I till the rest of my yard.
Thanks for your help,
Richard

So far so good. Used it for an hour or so and no squeaks.
Thanks again for all your help,
