I am on H1b status and my wife is on H4. We qualify as a resident alien. My wife does not work and does not have a SSN or TIN. I started working in November 2006. Please guide me as to how to go about filing the taxes.

If you file jointly, you qualify to file as resident aliens IF you so choose. However, by making this choice, ALL of your worldwide income becomes subject to U.S. taxes.
If you choose NOT to file jointly, you will file as a non-resident alien (NRA), and only the U.S.-based income is subject to U.S. taxes. If your November and December 2006 income is below $3,300 or you are eligible for a treaty exemption, filing NRA may make more sense.
