Hi,

A few days ago I was driving up a hill and my 98 Honda Civic started cutting back like it was running out of gas. It cut off, and wouldn't restart. We've replaced the distributor cap, the rotor button, and spark plugs. The car is getting both fuel and fire, the main relay isn't faulty, and I can't get any codes from the ODB2 test. It passes without any error codes. The car will not start, though. Alternator, starter, and battery are fine. I'm wondering if it could be the ignitor. Before purchasing a $170 part, does anyone have any suggestions on how to test that? Or what else may be causing this?

Much Appreciation In Advance For Any Help,
h0ax

Turn the engine over with the distributor cap off and see if it turns. If not, you have a broken timing belt or chain or other drive problem to it. If OK, pull a spark plug andlay it on a grounded part of the engineand turn the engine over. If you do not see a blue spark, work back the ignition system until you find the problem. If you see a spark, check the fuel system.

There is a blue spark, weak but existent. Replaced plugs because of the weakness, but still no start. The timing belt is fine. The fuel is okay, as well. We flooded the engine several times to check that. Thanks for your suggestion.

I had the same problem with me 00 civic. The result on mine was a bad coil, and ignition module. I had replaced them one at a time with no luck. I had spark, a weak one also. It was a $100.00 mistake since I ended up taking it to the dealer.

I live in LA and I have never had a problem. It has been raining non stop down pour for 17 days. Last night I went out and my car wouldn't start. It turns over but no fire. AAA came and got it started by adding fuel shaking it, I don't know what... He told me to keep it running, go get fuel cleaner and a full tank of gas. I did that and no problem. This morning I went out and same thing. It won't start. It turns over but that's as far as it goes. Tank is full. It's still raining.. What can it be? I have never had a problem. This is out of the blue. The last time I drove I (the night before last) and before all this happened it had never acted up or anything. It's a 92 with just under 85K. Please help
