My son is on probation for armed burglary ( 1st time offender) in Milledgeville Ga. His
Probation has been transferred to Cobb County Ga. He has been told
That his record is sealed and that when he completes 5 years
Probation with a clean record that the charges will not be on is
Record. He is also a full time college student with a 3.75 average.
He's the hiccup, he wants to travel abroad to Israel for a 10 day
Fully supervised sober religious retreat in June 2012. He needs to get
Permission from the original judge in the case. His probation people
Seem to think we should go through a lawyer. Is there not a legal
Partition form we can use to submit to the court. I think this whole
Thing is pretty cut and dry, he's in college ,it's supervised, his
Probation people love him, he's no trouble and totally turned his
Life. Can you recommend a for or create a form for us to use or
Should we just go to court and plead his case?

What would I do? Armed burglary is a serious charge. This isn't shoplifting (and I don't mean to talk down to you, but his is a serious crime).

I would not attempt to get permission to travel without an Attorney. He is going to get one bite of the apple (so to speak) and I would be very sure everything is in order and well presented. This trip does not sound like it's necessary or mandated. It sounds like a vacation retreat. The Court might be very hesitant without legal argument.

Does he know if he can enter Israel? I'm sure you know that entering Israel can be difficult.
