I have a General Control 24 Volt valve model 5-50 . I have replaced the thermocouple and the valve still doesn't open. I suspect the coil is faulty. Is there a replacement for this valve or can the coil be rebuilt? It has a standing pilot. The heat exchanger on this unit appears in good shape and the AC portion of the unit works good. I just hate to replace the whole furnace ( large expense ) just because the valve isn't working.

If you have 24v going to the valve with no gas passing through. I would say you have a bad valve. And yes they do make a after market valve for your system. Any HVAC supply sore should have what you need and would be happy to sell it to you.

One HVAC parts store told me that nothing was available. I feel they just wanted to sell me a total unit.
