I have a ge refrigerator model number GSL25JFTABS,the engagement auger keeps freezing up.I defrost it and re install it but it happens again with in 2-3 hrs.. tech said it's mother board but I'm skeptical.. seems the ice in the bin is defrosting and re freezing again into a solid clump..

Your logic sounds better than his. However, the defrost usually comes on every 8 or 12 hours. Defrosting does not usually melt the ice.

Another possibility;

Water solenoid valve to ice maker not shutting off water completely. Small amount of water seeps past valve. Ice tray overflows and water flows into Ice bin and freezes. Auger can't break up ice block.

Find solenoid valve, if possible reverse both plumbing and wiring to the other valve, which will be for the water dispenser. See what happens. If you cannot reverse wiring remove both valves from bracket, reinstall in reverse positions.

Tks,well last eve I cleaned and defrosted the engagement fork ,blew it out with compressed air to make sure all water is out and let it dry for 3 hrs.I re installed the assembly and turned the ice maker off,this afternoon the engagement fork in frozen up again,the unit didn't make any ice so I thin that would rule out water getting in there,but with the ice bin out I can't turn the fork...
