First off, My OPT started 2 weeks ago and I received my W2 from my university as I used to work part-time on campus. They have withheld my fed and state taxes and I want to claim it. Should I fill out 1040NR or NR EZ? What's the difference?

And what exactly are standard deductions? I have no idea.. I read some people saying they want to claim 3000, or 5000 and so on. What exactly are they claiming? And what proof are they providing? Can I claim it too?

Another question I have is, there is a box that says.. Can someone else claim you as a dependent? Can I get a refund in making either of the choices?

Your reply would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

You have to report income for 2011 on your 2011 tax return. Everyone on F1/OPT is nonresident for 5 years. You must file nonresident tax return Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ and form 8843. On nonresident tax return, you do not get standard deduction. You get itemized deduction and deduction based on tax treaty.
