So I've been working at my current job for a little over a year now and about 4 months ago I was promoted into a part time supervisory position. There are 4 supervisors in this department 3 that are part time and one person that is full time. Well the guy that was full time ended up leaving just before the holidays, which left his full time position open. Same position just more hours. Me and the other supervisor spoke to the store manager and we were told one of us would be switched to full time but that he wanted to wait until after the holidays to make that decision. Fast forward a couple months, a new front end manager gets hired. The new manager and store manager decide to promote another associate so that we have 4 part time supervisors. They tell this guy at christmas time they want to promote him and give him a raise. He goes through the interview with the district manager and gets approved. Then last week I go back and check the schedule and see that they've filled the full time position. My manager tells the coworker that he promised to promote that he wasn't approved so they hired someone else, which I know for a fact isn't true. Come to find out that this new guy they hired and my new front end manager that hired him are old friends. So now I go from having 32 hours every week and working five days a week for the past six months to working three days. Now the thing that bothers me is that I know me or my coworker would have been switched ino yje full time position if this new manager hadn't shown up. Now I get screwed because this manager just doesn't like me. I feel like my co-worker and I our being discriminated against because he doesn't like us. This decision to bring in his friend is obviously biased because NO ONE that works here starts at full time. Every single full time employee started as a part timer and earned their full time status. I really think this whole this is wrong and a bunch of my coworkers have suggested reporting him to HR. Is calling HR even worth it? I mean I feel like him giving his friend the full time position was wrong but do you guys thing anything is going to come out of it?

Nope. Unless there is a written policy that states that new employees must start as part-timers, then nothing legally wrong was done. If you go to HR, it will sound like a case of sour grapes and you might be labeled as a whiner.

However, if you go as a group and just question the issue of not starting as a part timer, that could fly.
