View Full Version : Finger broken? Strained? Does it matter?

After wrestling with my son yesterday, my pinky finger was sore - at the tip and the joint closest to the tip. I could make a fist with just a little pain. Within a couple hours it was black and blue, much more swollen and very painful.

I'm wearing a splint on it to keep it immobilized.

I'd rather not go to the Dr. if all they'll do is say "it's broken" or "it's sprained" and "just wear a splint on it".

Am I thinking correctly? Any reason to go to the Dr.

Thanks!

Not sure if it's correct, but your handling it the way I would. Good luck

Ouch! Looks like you might have some broken blood vessels! For the most part you are doing the right thing. Immobilization is what any doctor or ER will do.

Yes, ouch is right! And typing is slow since that big splint makes using the right shift key a drag... so I'll stick with lower case typing for now :)

Thanks, janine and parttime!

I'm embarrassed that a kid that I outweigh by 60 pounds got the best of me!

I guess there is no splint that works for embarrassment :(

Just goes to show that you aren't as quick and limber as you used to be.

As one who has broken several fingers and toes over the years, I discovered that the doctors don't do anything for them basically, they put a splint on the fingers ( don't even do that to your toes)

So yes looks sort of broken to me ( that will be 50 dollars for the eval please*LOL) but you are doing just what I would do.

Of course had he child had this, they would want to investigate for child abuse

This was caused by parent abuse. My son beat me up on the wrestling mat!

Thank you, Doctor-Father Chuck. I will add an extra $50 to our Bishop's annual appeal for your good advice :)
