A week ago we rescued a six year old female Rottie. (We also have two others). She does not like to go outside. She has only gone outside of her own free will twice. She sits down in the corner and refuses to budge. We have to leash her and nudge her out. We have tried luring her out with treats, calm soothing voices/mannerisms and all that. Nothing works. I hate having to drag her out. If we get her to move with a nudge as soon as she gets to the door she back tracks and then we have to pull her the rest of the way. When she is outside she will stay by the door. We walk her around the backyard and she does her business. Then, she runs back to the door. What is the best way to get her to go out on her own? And what could've happened to cause her to be this way? We have already had a couple of accidents because even if I recognize that she needs to go, she won't follow me to the door. Also, when we walk her around the block she will sit down often and refuse to budge. I can only go as far as a block until she is looking to go back home.

Please be patient... Something definitely happened to her outside - probably beaten - and she feels that inside is safer. Just give her time. Time and patience.. She needs to learn to trust again - but it takes time...

She might be deppressed or as someone said she may have been beaten outside andfeels safer inside.
