I recently capped an old unused 1 1/2" copper laundry drain stand with a rubber 1 1/2" pipe cap (jim-cap?).
Someone had installed a new PVC stand pipe 3' away, I think the room had been remodeled or something.
The old stand pipe was left poking out of the wall, and it's trap was in the wall and had dried up due to non-use.
Sewer gas was coming out.Like I said, I capped it off then patched the wall. I'm in Illinois, Cook county,palatine township.
It's downstream vent was only servicing that drain line, all the other fixtures near it had proper vents
And were really close to the soil stack and 2" vertical copper vent line. Is this acceptable? Will it pass a DWV pressure test? The hose clamp on the rubber cap is pretty snug.

Sounds like you did a good job of capping off a unused drain. Been a long time since I worked in Illinois. I moved to Florida from Rockford back in 1955.
Will it pass a DWV pressure test? Not much PSI connected to a DWV test. You'll pass. Good luck, Tom

In my area, a jim cap will NOT pass inspection... must be a permanent cap. If Copper drain, must be a soldered cap on the drain... If you can get to the PVC section then a schedule 40 PVC cap will be needed.

Jim caps are strictly to be used for testing purposes only... not for permanent use!

Thanks for the responses, guys. The gas worried me the most. I'll take my chances with inspection, sounds like they might not like the cap, I have pictures of it all. Sounds like a "should've done it right the first time" situation.
The original copper Ptrap was buried in the wall, I don't know if that's out of code, didn't seem right.
I already patched the wall. No inspection coming up. Thanks again.

The other experts were bang on about a permanent cap. However you asked if would pass a DWV test and in my area Jim Caps are allowed on a static water test. Tom
