Does IRS really audit a person for not claiming veteran status? And during audits do they send portions of returns out? Keeping, let's say the EIC?

The IRS does many random audits, just picking people, they also pick those that may appear to have errors.

What veteran status are you talking about, being or not being a veteran makes no difference I have filed taxes for 40 years and never have been asked if I was a veteran or not.

Next what do you mean "send portions out" the IRS does their own audits

This was a question froma friend... she stated the IRS was auditing her because she didn't claim that she was a veteran and that they didn't send her EIC just a portion of what her return shouldve been! I've been filing taxes over 20 years now and a veteran and have never been asked that either, so I was just wondering if anyone else had the same problems...

The "veteran status" could refer to a number of items. I believe the most likely is the requirement that veterans who are attending school and applying for the American Opportunity Credit are REQUIRED to report their GI Bill benefits whene determing their eligibility for this refundable credit.
