We just got a small point-of-use hot water heater for under our kitchen sink. We have a 4-wire 220 line available that we used to have an electric range hooked up to but recently changed to a gas range, so it's not being used at all. The hot water heater has a 3 wire cord on it and we need to splice at a junction box. Do we hook up red to red, black to black, ground to ground and cap the neutral? Also, is 40 amps enough or maybe does it need 60? It is a small heater.
