I THINK our puppy Angel, may have kennel cough, or some other kind of respitory sickness. She has been couging the last few days. I've checked her mouth and she has nothing stuck in her throat or anything, which was my first thought *she is a pup, and likes to eat ANYTHING she can get her paws on lol*

My question is, if she does have an infection and will need antibiotics, how much will the cost, so that I can buget it in?

That may largely depend on what area you are in, so basically whatever your regular vet charges for an exam. I know around here an average for an exam fee is around $45. The medications IF it were kennel cough should not be very expensive depending on what antibiotic is prescribed, so you may be looking at around $30 for meds, antibiotics along with a cough suppressant. Most vets will require that they see the dog to ensure that they are treating properly. Kennel cough usually will run its' course in a couple of weeks, similar to a cold with us humans. But if the cough is persistent then it may throw her off her food a bit because of the irritation to the throat. The cough is typically described as "something stuck in throat" or even "honking like a goose" is this what you are hearing?

or this?

Not suggesting that you don't know what you are listening to by any means, but I have seen them confused many times.
Other than the cough is she fine otherwise?

No worries at all! I'm glad you posted those because that's NOT what it sounds like thank heavens!
And its not constant. Its maybe 5 or 6 times in the day, sporadically.

And I did think it sounded like something caught in her throat. But another way I could describe it, is maybe a cat with a hairball lol.

I searched videos and actually found a dog just like my pup lol (Pomeranian mixed with poodle) and making the same sound.

We just give ours a bit of honey if they get kennel cough to soothe their throats.

I don't go to the vet unless there are other symptoms or the cough gets out of hand.

It's just like the human flu, you don't race off to the doctor unless there is something really wrong. Just plenty of rest and TLC is usually enough.

Just watch out for excessive coughing, or excess fluids (nose discharge changes color, lungs sound rattly etc).

Thanks shaz. Thankfully we don't have to pay for office visits, we pay a monthly fee for 'insurance' so we don't have to pay for any visits or anything. But meds would still cost.

She doesn't seem to have bad breathing or any fluids coming out anywhere lol. And she is so HYPER and happy today lol.
