View Full Version : Do renters have rights for living at same house for 18 years?

We have lived in the same house for 18-years I run my busyness out of there with the okay of landlord by letter on Feb 4, 2012 I received a certified mail we need to move out by April 30, 2012 this was a total shock to us don't we have rights to try to save money for a new move in somewhere else and do we have longer then April 30, 2012 cents I run my busyness out of there. This was never brought up that we would have to move out at all Note what they told me was there son lost his place so he has to move in there Please help with answer do I need to pay rent without getting in trouble and do have long time before in need to get out.

Sorry, no you have no rights beyond what your lease and local law give you. I don't know of anyplace that gives extra rights because of longevity. And, if the area is not zoned for commercial use, running a business might even be a problem.

I'll assume you are currently on a month to month basis or that your current lease term expires on 4/30. If that is the case, then the landlord is probably within his rights to give you one full month's notice to vacate (ANY question on law needs to include your general locale as laws vary by area.)
