My lease is up on March 17th so I am not breaking my lease. I am notifying them that I do not want to renew. However you are supposed to give a 60 day notice. Here is the catch... The reason I didn't was because I wasn't planning on moving until I heard gunshots, and other sketchy things occurred. Basically I don't feel safe and I want OUT. I have no proof, but I really don't care... I want to live. They have promised many things and haven't delivered. None of that matters... It is a safety issue and a not feeling comfortable in my home. I called security one night and it took them 1.5 hours to respond and then he was in Florida... Do I have a leg to stand on? I am in a thirty day window.

Unless your written lease provides that it automatically renews for another year, then you should be OK. However you will be responsible for rent for the full 60 days. So you will have to pay rent until April 17.
