My granddaughters father is having his rights severed. He is a convicted felon. Is he still obligated to pay child support or have any rights at all? We live in Colo

I assume by the court. DO you know the specific reason for it.. simply being a convicted felon isn't reason enough.

Since it is very rare to have rights taken away, we need to know more about it.

Has he been proven a danger to the child ? Was he in prison for a very long time?

Did he sign away rights to allow a step parent to adopt ?

But often if rights are taken because he is a danger to the child, he will still pay support, if the child is having a step parent adoption, support ends.

Some state sever both rights and responsibilities. Others only rights. I can't find a specific statute for CO that addresses this issue. But a court will rarely sever rights where it ends support.

Does the mother have an attorney? If not, this question should be asked of the judge.
