Hi,

I have been working in US with H1B visa for more than a year. My wife has been on F1 visa for more than a year as well and has her OPT now. She works as a trainee but earn no salary. She has SSN as well.

What are my options for filling out the W-4 form?

Is my wife considered as non-resident alien?

If yes then

Am I considered as single?

Thanks,

You can submit W-4 as SINGLE with 0 or 1 allowance, or MARRIED with 0, 1, or 2 allowances.

Thanks for your answer.

So, can I claim her as a dependent now with her F1 visa? Which means that will I owe any income tax for the period 2012 if I submit W-4 as Married with 2 allowences? Or should I submit W-4 as Single with 1 allowence and expect a tax return for 2012?

Thanks,
