Hello,
I am on L1 Visa from last 11 months in California. I got to know from one consultant that declaring Apartment Rent, Mobile Bills, Internet Bills and Commute expenses can help in getting good refund. Is it true? Let me know if need more information to answer the question.

When did you enter US? Were you in US before 2011? This is to figure out if you are dual status or resident.
Is your visit to US on L1 expected to be for less than a year? Even if you do not qualify for above mentioned deductions, you can claim moving expenses.

You can not claim rent, food and travel expenses since you visit to US is not temporary. If you are not married, you will file dual status tax return. If you are married, you can file joint return as residents. http://taxipay.blogspot.in/2008/08/us-visas.html
