Hi, I have just the hd from my old PC and I`m want to save some file off it. I did it with my old sony vaio PC with something called a ---?---kit. It was something that you connect directly to the hd, it had a power supply that you plugged into a outlet and a usb connector to plug into the PC you were transferring the old files to. I can`t remember what the name of the kit is. Anyone have an idea? I`d really appreciate it.
Thank

Best Buy sells Hard Drive Caddies. They're not cheap but you can plug and unplug any 3.5 or 2.5 drive into them without having to make a permanent enclosure. I've been meaning to get one myself but have waited for a newer controller chip to come out.

There are very cheap ($30 or so) universal adapters that connect to your computer via USB cable then allow you to plug in any hard drive that would have been sold in a consumer grade desktop/laptop computer in the last 10-15 years (IDE & SATA hard drives, in both desktop and laptop sizes). These are not "enclosures" meant to permanently attach a drive to your computer for long term use, but more for temporary use, recovering files from an old or failing drive, etc. Here's a link to an example of this type of device... there are tons to choose from:
