So I have a 1995 honda civic. The original issue was very harsh idle brought to shop they said it was the distributor assembly. They wanted 800 for the job so I drove car home ordered part online 5 days later part came in. I swapped entire distributor, cap, plugs, new wires, fuel filter and even air filter. Go to turn car on and it just keeps turning over won't start. I hook up a spark tester that goes between the wires and the plug and all 4 are getting voltage. I checked the fuel pump by loosening the filter plug and that's all good. I'm at a loss. I understand I will need to retime my car but why won't it even start now.

If the Check Engine Light consistently comes on for 2 seconds and then goes out, when the ignition switch is turned to ON (Position II), then the problem is likely distributor related. Did you buy a genuine Honda distributor? Over 50% of new aftermarket distributors for Hondas, at AMHD, don't work. The remaining ones are usually unreliable and problematic. My advice is to install a genuine Honda distributor housing, where it's okay to install an aftermarket Ignition Control Module and coil to keep the cost down.

Is the Honda distributor brand new or used? Does the CEL come on for 2 seconds and then go out, when the ignition switch is turned to Position II?
