I'm no Vet---all I can give is my experience-----My dog (who weighed about 88#) was prescribed
Benadryl many times over the course of his 15 year long life.
It helps them get relief from allergies, etc.

Sorry, just realized your dog's weight-------I used to give my 88#er 2 at a time to give him
Good relief for awhile.
A12#er-------I don't know---1/2 a capsule? But since they ARE capsules, I guess you would just
Open it and pour out about 1/2 of the contents, then close it back up and give to your little dog.
Hope this helps a little. I know how hard it can be trying to help your animals without a Vet.

I'm a vet tech. You can give a dog 1mg per lbs so get a 25mg benadryl and cut in half.

I'm assuming your dog is itchy? If it is for a different reason, let us know.
Please know that this only treats the itchiness, not what may be causing the problem. If it is an ongoing problem or this doesn't provide relief, you really should get your dog in to a vet.

Generally Benadryl is given at a dose of 2-4mg/kg. Being 12lb, that's 5.4kg.
Therefore your dog could receive about 10-20mg of it. Half a 25mg tablet should work.

You need to make sure that what you have contains JUST diphenhydramine - often times the brand name Benadryl will have forms that contain other medications that may be harmful to your pet.

Thank you vet tech. info helped. My dog has itchy problems spring time every yr. Vet says may be allergic to fleas, although on flea meds too. Her skin gets raw. Ive given her 25mg tablet and she has gotten better in two days...

As far as GarageCat's comment: if you buy the tablets, you don't have to worry about breaking a capsule.
