But did you check the jet for mineral buildup? I have one that most repair plumbers miss.. Look down at the bottom of the bowl. If there is a small hole, then that is a jet that starts the syphon action. If it's clogged the water will just swirl around and slowly go down leaving solids behind. Take your finger,(UGH! ) and run it around the inside of the opening. Over the years minerals build up and cut down on the syphon (flush) action. If it is rough or you feel build up, take a table knife and put a bend in it to get around the curve in the bowl and chip and scrap it clear. Next take a coathanger and clear out the holes around the rim. They start the swirling action. And last, check the water level in the tank. It should be 1/2" below the top of the over flow tube. And speaking of the overflow tube, Make sure the small 1/8" tube from the ballcock to the white overflow tube is connected so it discharges in it and that it's flowing when the ballcock fills. This is what raises the water level in the bowl. For a good solid flush they all have to work together. Hope this helps and thank you for rating my reply.. Tom

In addition to Tom's answer some toilets syphon jet is under the lip were the water goes down the toilet. You have to put your hand in the water with your fingers under the lip and flush the toilet. Don't worry it won't flush you down, I think ;) You should feel the water jet hit your fingers from finger size holes in this area, if not bend coat hanger and clean out this area. This is only for toilets that you can't see a syphon jet hole opposite the drain hole. If you see this hole follow instructions Tom gave.

The toilet is super clean with no limescale at-all... there is no hole at the bottom of the bowl

There are holes around /under the rim and they are all clean . There are 2 holes at the back of the bowl - at 12 o clock on the bowl and they are both clean -

The water level seems OK but I do think its gone down a little and is about 1'' ( inch ) less than what it should be... the water when flushed has no 'oomph''! And just swirls around the pan and then glugs away... taking afew lucky bits with it... but does not take it all... :(

Thanks canoeman we will also have a lok at the holes behind the lowerrim in the morning... I did not see your reply... till just now thanks

How high is the tank level? It should be 1/2"
Under the white overflown tube. Cheers. Tom

What a brill site... thanks to everyone who helped on this... we gave the cistern a good clean and adjusted the ball cock... 'bent it very carefully /so that then has raised the water level '... hey presto... the BIG FLUSH has returned... the water level has now been raised to 1/2 inch below the overflow tube... hey presto!!

I think what had happened is beacuae we had been on holiday for 2 weeks and no flushing... so the water line had gone down... but anyway its all OK... thanks ever so much for help
