At 100,000 miles, I removed and installed Monroe Quick Struts on my 2000 Taurus SE--front and rear. New coil springs are the way to go. They come with a lifetime warranty.
When you replace the front struts, it's the perfect time to also replace the wheel bearings (Timken) and lower ball joints (Moog). Lowering the subframe (two 18mm bolts) an inch, one side at a time, is the trick. Moog lower ball joints and Monroe Quick Struts make a huge difference on these cars.
