My daschund is 4 years old just in the last couple of days - his back leg seems to be bothering. I don't know if it is hip or it could be the lower part of his back, is there something that I can give him before taking him to the vet.

Thanks

If he is in pain, you can give some common aspirin, buffered is best. Do not give him any of the newer pain killers. Give him 5 mg per pound. You may want to start with a baby aspirin since a regular aspirin is 325 mg, just right for a 65 pound dog.

This is only a temporary measure to make him more comfortable until you get him to the vet. Be sure and tell the vet about it. Otherwise it could hide the pain making the correct diagnosis even more difficult.
