We bought a house a few months ago and it has a heat pump that is about 10 years old. The house is about 3000 sq ft and every room is cold. I have never even heard of a heat pump before this, but it doesn't seem to make the house warm even when the temp outside is well above freezing. I had the temp in side set at 75 degrees but it never gets above 70 degrees. Even when it cycles to electric heat the air coming out of the vents is cool. Could there be something wrong with it or is this what I can expect with a heat pump? I am nervous about switching it to emergency heat because of cost. Does using emergency heat raise the electric bill significantly?

Quote((Does using emergency heat raise the electric bill significantly? )),, yes

Quote ((Could there be something wrong with it or is this what I can expect with a heat pump? )),don`t know what the outside temps are or where you live, but where I live 70 degrees with a heatpump would be exciting, most heat pumps don`t do much good after the outside temp. goes down to around 30 to 35 degrees, but then most prople around here don`t set the tstat above 70 degrees,

Let us know if you can come up with more info, how long has this been a problem?

It has been a problem since we have lived here about 4 months. We have a home warranty and I'm wondering if I should spend the $100 to have someone look at it.
