What are some reasons for violent behavior between inmates and prison staff?

There are killers and very dangerous people locked up. There are gang members locked up. They are full of hate,
Prison staff and other inmates are the ones available.

Try to picture yourself living in a 6'X 10" room, nothing except a bed, sink, toilet and absolutely nothing to do all day long... NOTHING. Living under those conditions breed anger, hate and contempt. It truly is punishment as humans by nature want to be productive in some way. Add to that , that most of the people in prison and repeat offenders, are there for violent crimes, have no concern for anyone or their actions (sociopaths), you have the perfect place for violent behavior to happen.
THe thing that bothers me the most is that many of those people go in and out of prison all of their lives.

Thank you for your help! I am writing a paper on this topic and the reason I asked the question is because I could not find any reliable internet sources for my ciations and information. I already had an idea of the answer. I just need credible websites to use.

I also have another question. How does violent behavior affect incarceration length?

When a prisoner commits violent acts in prison the affects are the same as if they were committed on the street. They are charged, tried before a board in the prison system and sentenced accordingly. Unfortunately , "lifers" consider the fact that they really have nothing to lose and commit petty crimes and even murder because they con only serve life once anyway. Bottom line, they get to stay longer if the screw up.
