Create a web site, be sure and submit it to all the major search engines, Go to any places people may search for servcies and business in your area.
Example do a search ( various ones) using the info your customers may use. See what groups or assocations pop up that supply lists of these business,
Make sure your web page is on all of your flyers and business cads.

I have a webpage, I put all info on business cards, submitted url to small business directories as well as women owned business directories. Where do I do the search on Google? I live in Massachusetts so does the search differ?

You just do searches, your city or county, your type of business or more. And see who is popping up, and try to figure out how or way.

A cleaning company is very local. So Internet advertising is not an effective tool for you. Yes you need a website but as an online brochure not as a source of leads.
You want to be listed on sites that are like local yellow pages.

All this is fine Ms Owens, however knocking on doors... gets the best results.

I think you better make use of social media. Say create a Facebook account to promote your cleaning business. Scottgem has a point though. You're after a local market so you need to choose a more personalized marketing avenue. Ask you friends to help you spread the word. You can use business cards, flyers, posters, or even car magnets to tell the whole village about this new business.
