My son just turned three in January. He is a sweet, lovable, funny, active little boy. All of his developmental milestones have been right on, with the exception of his speech. As I said, he just turned three, and he only has 2 words that are actually "words". His mouth goes non-stop, but it's mostly jibber jabber. He has had 2 hearing tests, both which showed normal results. He understands everything that is said to him, or asked of him. He listens very well, and co-operates with simple requests. Why isn't he talking?? He is currently getting "help" from a speech language pathologist, however the progress is minimal. Any ideas? Comments? Similar situations? Thanks.

I understand as a parent you will certainly be panicky about the delay in speech of your kid ,BUT there are some kids which will start walking or talking late.
All I can suggest is interact more with the kid,Repeat words more often so tat its is recorded in the subconcious mind and then it come out of his muth automatically.
Do not panick .Keep faith!

Hey he's α kid let him develop in his own time-- your doing the right thing by going to α speech therαpist:-) It's αll up to him now, just let him be... don't rush him everything now is being rushed. Like I sαid he'll do it on his own time, your not doing αnything wrong (unless your pressuring him-wrong wαy to go αt it by the wαy).
I hαd α nefew who αlso didn't speαk until he wαs αround 4 1/2.. He's heαlthy αnd everything.. my sister introduced him to new kids (αt the pαrk, plαy dαtes, mommy αnd me clαsses... there's α lot out there!) αnd thαt encourαged him to speαk becαuse he wαnted to mαke friends.. mαybe your son just needs something to relαte to so he αlso is encourαged:-D
Don't worry mom your doing great

My baby cousin did not start talking in till she was three in half. She did as you said your son will do say couple words but other than that nothing. We thought that maybe it is because she is the third child but that can't be the case cause I am a third child, I started speaking at the age one. So every child has its on development path and know that your son is not the only late speaker in the world!!

My nephew didn't speak anywhere near fluently till four, now he's the top of his class. I suggest you just spend time reading books to him aloud and let him develop at his own pace

My four year old son can read and write small sentences, count up to 200, identify colours, socialises well, but doesn't talk much. He understands everything we tell him but sometimes when he is not interested, he doesn't respond. EVen then, he uses the words we said to him sometime later when the situation turns up, so he is listening and learning. He just doesn't talk at a 4 year old level. Speech therapy and paediatrician didn't do much. He asks to go to the toilet sometimes but mostly he doesn't. What we figure is he has the skills and will bring them out when he is ready. We went through a lot of stressful autism diagnosis, but the doctors admit there are no conclusive tests or disgnostic methods to determine autism (or lack of it). I say be patient. Slow talking could as well be a sign of giftedness (I read some research papers conducted by paediatric researchers) especially if they have parents in music or analysis (computer science, research or similar) as their jobs.

That is interesting. My first born spoke very late too and at the age of four was a pretty good violin player.

Hi my son is about to be 4 and he was talking fine at the age of 1 then for some reason that not even doctors know he stop talking. His hearing is normal but he just won't talk much. My son has been receiving speech therapy but he's advancing too slow.
What Im doing to help him is adding words to his vocabulary such as:
Duck.. then once he got the word add the action, like duck is swimming and so on.I notice that my son learns or retain more when he actually sees the action in this case a duck swimming. Funny as it sounds , my son got more ahead when I do this things than with theraphy..
Good luck

I have a similar issue! My son will be three rught away and knows lits of words but dies not put any together yet not even two! Some says he is fine and that boys just take longer. And others are asking my why he doesn't talk yet when their children who are younger talk really well.
