I have a 2001 landrover discovery TD5 manual gearbox. I recently noticed oil in the radiator after it blew the bottom hose. A mechanic told me that was a blown cylinder head gasket which we replaced. However after replacing it, the car first the car started experiencing a hard start, eventually it would only start on a jump start, with white smoke coming out of the exhaust system as well as the dipstick and the oil is now back in the cooling system. When we changed the head gasket, we resurfaced the cylinder head. Now my mechanic tells me that the car needs an engine overhaul. It won't start because he says it is losing compression. My question is, what are the other options to fixing my problem. This is a landrover, the repair costs are just waaaay over the top. Thank you

Sell it or fix it...

If you can't afford to fix it right... then its time to get rid of it.

Any halfass fix is just that... something that's not going to last.

You can get a second opinion from a different shop before you throw more money at it.

I agree ,there is no quick easy fix to a compression problem. Either get it fixed or sell it
